Is there anything you can do about?

Tarantulas?? I live in Vegas, I was going out the gate to walk my dog when I spotted a Tarantulas in my neighbors drive way. I am horrified of these things and the 7 years that I have been here, I've never seen one until today. I flagged down a jogger on my street and he put the spider in a shoe box and took it off to the pond down the road. Is there anything that I can put around my property to keep them from coming around. My husband is in Texas...yep, I called him hysterical!!! And I am scared to death of these things. I know that the hero neighbor thinks I am a nut case...lol...and I really can't blame him. I was on the phone with my husband, shaking and crying like a crazy woman. Got any suggestions?
