How do you tell if a guy "likes' you?!?!?

well today i was walking in the hallway with this guy i really like alotttttttttttttt and he goes "kelsey....." and paused for a few seconds and i was like yeah? and then he paused and was like ..... "were friends right?" and then i was like ...yeah why? and he goes "okay.. just making sure.." whats this supposed to mean!? i feel like he was gonna ask me out.. im so confused:( and he always does this stufff to make me think he likes me.. like walks me to cl..touches my hair and stufff idont know..
